BETONG: All schools are advised to plan more comprehensive learning strategies, including opening a space for collaboration with any party that can maximise the chance of success for STPM and SPM candidates in their respective schools.

Assistant Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said with the opening of the third term starting today, students who were in examination classes are one step closer to the STPM and SPM examinations scheduled for March.

He added that schools need to plan comprehensive and effective learning strategies in preparing their SPM and STPM candidates for the coming school examinations.

“This includes collaborating with all parties that can help improve the performances and abilities of schoolchildren so that they achieve the best results in future exams.

“For example, in my area, the Layar Education Development Committee and SMK Saint Augustine will implement the Sinar Mutiara SEMESTA Programme as an initiative to prepare all examination candidates physically, mentally and emotionally,” he said when contacted today (Jan 9).

The Layar assemblyman also reminded all examination candidates not to be complacent.

“Appreciate the remaining time by giving priority to reviewing weak subjects.

“At the same time, continue to strengthen the well-established subjects in order to get better results,” he said.

While responding to parents’ concerns about sending children to school, Rentap stressed that confidence in their safety and in the COVID-19 standard operating procedures should be cultivated.

“Don’t be afraid if you have been vaccinated and I am confident that the schools have made thorough preparations for the school opening session in accordance with the National Recovery Plan which is now in its fourth phase.

“Parents need to help convince their children that the preparation of the schools in terms of a risk management plan to face the third school term is very detailed.

“Prioritise cleanliness, practise physical confinement and always wear a face mask.

“I also understand that most schools use a controlled school operation approach, which is important to provide space for students to learn face-to-face with teachers and to reduce the learning deficit,” he said.
