KUCHING: With the COVID-19 situation getting safer now, the Scout’s Sarawak Headquarters was able to organise the patrol system management course for 102 patrol leaders from Kuching City District, Petra Jaya District, Matang District, Samarahan District, Kapit District and Simunjan District.
According to its press statement here today, the three-day course was held at the Sarawak Education Department’s Co-Curriculum Centre in Santubong.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner Methodius Macdonald George Segie, said it was important for the patrol leaders to be given exposure on the types of leadership and how they could adopt and practise the suitable leadership style for the betterment of scouting in Sarawak.
He pointed out that scouting needs good leadership in all sections and levels so that it can retain its membership and attract more yang people to join scouting.
Methodius also said that the three-day course covered talks on Patrol Leaders and Patrol System, Patrol Leaders Council with emphasis on the Role and Management of Meetings, Patrol Management and Programme Planning, Scout and Senior Scout Training Schemes, Roles and Functions of Patrols, Journey to Achieving King Scout Badge all of which had opened
up a wide perspective for the patrol leaders to adopt when they return to their respective troops.
He further emphasised that the patrol system developed by founder Lord Robert Baden Powell 111 years ago has been well tested and could ensure the proper and effective methodology for the training of scouts.
“I would like to see that in scouting we practise good leadership at all levels centering on the spirit of brotherhood,” he added.
He also urged all patrol leaders to practise what they had learnt from the course to ensure positive results of producing scouts who are trained in many fields.
Also present in the ceremony were course leader Allen Juslen Nyuntai, Scout Programme Commissioner Abang Zulfikar Abang Zaini and senior scout commissioners.
