KUCHING: Participation in the Scout and Girl Guides movements will develop resilience among youths, especially in facing challenging times.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dr Ripin Lamat said it can also develop courage,leadership, and talent among them.

He was speaking at a Scout and Girl Guides campfire at the State Stadium grounds in conjunction with the 2022 Youth Day Celebration.

“Such qualities are very important because you are the future leaders of our country”, he said.

Ripin, reminisced about his time in the scouting movement during his school days, saying that attending the camp fire brought back nostalgic memories for him.

He said his involvement in the scout movement laid a strong foundation in his life to face challenge after challenge in his career as a politician.

Ripin also called on all Scouts and Girl Guides to cultivate a strong sense of brotherhood and sisterhood.

The Youth Day camp was attended by more than 200 Scouts and more than 150 Girl Guides.

Also present were Nancy Jolhi, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan, Chief Scout Commissioner of Sarawak and  Ruth Sibat, Chief Girl Guide Commissioner of Sarawak.
