KUCHING: The Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) held a dialogue with the Director of Crime Prevention and Community Development from Bukit Aman, CP Datuk Sri Rosli Abdul Rahman recently.
Rosli was in Kuching for an official visit from July 17 till July 19.
SCPA chairman Datuk John Lau said Rosli commended SCPA members for their cooperation with the police in crime prevention.
“He also applauded members of the public for working with the police closely to build a safer community,” Lau said.
Rosli also said it is crucial to start educating the young ones on the need to be eyes and ears to the police so that when they grow up, they will work with the police in building a safer community.
Lau then thanked the police for working with the community, adding that Kuching is one of the safest cities in Malaysia.
“Citizen perceptions on fear of crime in Kuching was 20.7 per cent as compared to Kuala Lumpur at over 60 per cent.
“And citizen participation in crime prevention was 80.6 per cent,” he said.
He mentioned people want to participate in crime prevention because they like to live in a safe, secure and tranquil society.
Later, Lau also presented four of his research papers on community policing and crime prevention to Rosli.
