KUCHING: Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) has clarified that its new entrance fees for next year were meant for foreigners who booked online through its website.

SCV director of Sales, Marketing and Events Zaini Zainuddin said the slight increase in the fees was done after a survey and comparing SCV with other tourist attractions in Malaysia and Singapore.

“We evaluate based on products, physical setting, human resources… using the Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

He added SCV was also in the process of developing and upgrading its facilities which cost millions of ringgit.

“For online booking this year, it is RM60 for an adult and RM30 for a child.

“The new prices in 2020 excluding lunch will be RM85 for an adult and RM50 for a child (two to 12 years old). The RM95 entrance fee for an adult and RM60 for a child will include lunch and free special door gifts,” he said.

Zaini explained that for Sarawakians, the current price was RM25 for an adult. Next year, the prices would increase to RM30 for an adult and RM20 for a child.

“The prices are not the same. We want Sarawakians to support us,” he said.

Zaini added the Sarawakian public or university students would automatically get a special rate if they visited SCV.

“All they have to do is to show their identity card (IC) or college ID at the counter.”

Zaini also thanked those who had given their suggestions on how to improve SCV.

Besides the new prices, he said SCV’s multi-cultural dance performances would also be extended from 45 minutes to one hour.

In line with the state’s digital economy journey, SCV has developed an app which includes augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) features.

“There will also be a treasure hunt for kids in SCV which requires them to use the app. The kids will be given prizes once they complete the treasure hunt,” he said.

Zaini revealed that there would be a soft launch of the app on Jan 3 next year at SCV.

SCV is an award-winning Living Museum that spans across 17-acres of land just across from Damai Beach Resort and Hotels.
