BETONG: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) will convene a special meeting in Kuching today to discuss the latest development of the Covid-19 pandemic in Kuching District.
Its chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said positive cases in the district had spiked lately.
“Today (July 25) we have eight positive cases and nine cases last Friday (July 24). We have 39 positive cases at present and with one more case Kuching will turn from yellow to red zone.
“When we turn red, it reflects the seriousness of the situation. This warrants certain measures to be taken.
“Tomorrow meeting will be a special one to determine these measures,” he said, adding that whatever measures taken would be conveyed to Kuala Lumpur and the Health Ministry.
Uggah noted that Sarawak wants them (Putrajaya/Health Ministry) to act on the measures so that they can be enforced or implemented as soon as possible.
He said among the issues to be discussed would be possible travel bans.
SDMC advisors Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi are expected to attend the meeting. Also expected are State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing and his team of medical experts.
