KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) has been allocated RM50,000 to organise activities that unify the Dayaks, revealed Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
Besides maintaining their unity, the Dayaks in Sarawak should live in harmony and peace with people of other races and religions, he added at the SDNU dinner here on Friday night.
“I observe many Ibans are moving to the town areas in search of better lives. They may need support and the allocation that has been given could be used to help them,” he said.
Rundi also advised the Dayaks to be united in celebrating the forthcoming Gawai Dayak festival.
Meanwhile, SDNU president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said the Gawai celebration highlighted the culture and traditions of the Dayaks.
He advised the Dayaks to look after their image well and to respect others so that other people would respect them in return.
The Kumang Gawai SDNU this year was won by Gloria Malong, a 20-year-old Iban vocational college student from Sibu.
