KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) wants to make sure the Dayak community is well-informed of the needs for and opportunities related to higher education.
SDNU Kuching chairman Thadeus Ling Allu said it was for this reason that the union was organising the Education Expo.
“We will try to organise many more similar events in the future so that members of the do not miss out on the opportunities,” he said during the Education Expo held at Bukit Siol Kandis SDNU Hall in Petra Jaya here yesterday.
According to him, the expo involved 15 public and private agencies and institutions.
“This program focuses more on students with Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) and Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM).
“I hope that parents take this opportunity to provide their children with educational exposure and more information,” he said.
Thadeus also revealed that SDNU also gives incentives to Dayak children who want to pursue higher education.
In an unrelated matter, Thadeus said SDNU is ready to work with the Association of Iban Community Leaders in Kuching City (Pemaik) to help address the urban poverty issues.
“Based on our understanding, the state government through Pemaik, has set up a committee to address the problems of the urban poor. SDNU feels called upon to take part in this matter,” he said
“We would really like to work with all the relevant parties to help address the problem of poverty in the city,” he added.
