SIBU: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) and Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) of Sibu branches have been entrusted to assist the distribution of food baskets to the Dayak communities here who are in need of food assistance.
SDNU Sibu Jaya branch will be doing the same for the community staying in Sibu Jaya area.
According to SDNU Sibu branch chairman Chambai Lindong, daily paid workers who are in dire need of the assistance can apply by sending a WhatsApp message with information namely their name, occupation, identity card number, contact number, address and the number of family members.
To be included are their spouse’s name, occupation, identity card number, contact number and address.
“This WhatsApp message can be sent to 011-59831495 from 9am to 12pm daily. The WhatsApp messages sent to this number will be handled by the call centre of the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee which will filter out any overlapping applications,” he said when contacted by Bernama
The information will then be channelled to the Sibu Food Distribution Centre for Nangka, Bawang Assan, Bukit Assek, Pelawan and Dudong state constituencies which have been allocated with RM200,000 each to provide food baskets to the people in the respective areas.
A total of 20,000 food baskets will be delivered to the people who have run out of food supply in each area by non-government organisations including SDNU and SIDS, volunteers and appointed food riders.
There are 377 longhouses located within the constituencies where many of the dwellers are unable to go to town to buy foods due to the present Movement Control Order (MCO) enforced by the government until April 14 to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.
