Kampung Bako: A total of 10,000 sea bass fish seeds were released in Kampung Bako in conjunction with the ‘Gelombang Nelayan Nasional’ 2017.
It is the biggest release of fish seeds ever in Malaysia and hence, has made its way into the Malaysia World Book of Records.
Gracing the event was State Assemblyman Dr. Hazland Hipni who said that within six to seven months, 80 to 90 per cent from the 10,000 fish seeds will beneficial to the people and fishermen of Kampung Bako.
“With this, we can increase the income of the people in Bako and at the same time, people from Kuching and nearby towns can come over to Bako’s market to buy these produce,” said Hazland.
He also recommended that such programme to be constantly implemented every three months to ensure continuous supply of sea bass.
“In Bako we have many ponds that we can use to develop and breed fish seeds. The Sarawak Fishery Department also offers white prawn seed.
“Bako is a place that has a high potential that have not been well explore. We should see this happening in the near future, especially through this programme,” said Hazland.
Also present was the Director of Sarawak Fisheries Department, Belayong Anak Nyuak.
Hazland also gave out a unit of handheld GPS and two units of Keropok Lekor processor and presented a life jacket each to 55 fishermen who are SUPER members at the same function.
