BALINGIAN: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the 74-year-old missing man has entered its fifth day today at Rumah Bunak, Tepus, Balingian.
Perau Angga, who was believed to have showered in a nearby river last Tuesday, April 16, went on a stroll near the river where he was suspected to have gone missing.
Longhouse residents and family members have made the effort to look for the victim for two days after realising that he never made it back home. They then lodged a report to the fire and rescue department the next day, April 17.
The SAR operation led by Assistant Fire Superintendent Nazari Harun along with ten firefighters and with the assistance of two police officers, nine civil defence officers and 26 longhouse residents were split into three groups.
The first group consisting of one firefighter and two longhouse residents focused their search along Sungai Tepus to the upstream by using a small boat which measured a distance of about 7 to 8km.
The second group comprising three firefighters, a police officer, four civil defence officers and 15 longhouse residents focused their 15KM radius search around the riverbanks of Sungai Lalang.
Three firefighters, three civil defence officers and nine villagers in the third group focused their 5km radius search in the forest area by the riverbanks of Sungai Rupas.
All three groups could not find the victim and the operation continues tomorrow (Sunday).
The victim is said to have hearing problems and suffers from memory or soreness problems. According to the victim’s wife and the Tuai rumah, the victim has gone missing three times but managed to return home. The victim is only wearing a white singlet and red shorts.
