LINGGA: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a Myanmar national feared drowned in Batang Seterap came to nothing on Tuesday (Feb 8).
The victim, identified as Thein Wai Maung, 35, is yet to be found on Day Two.
Tuesday’s operation, which involved firefighters, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), Lingga Health Clinic, Kapal Ketara Sepuluh, was carried out in five sectors within a 20km radius.
Firefighters searched from the Lingga river estuary towards the coastal area of Tanjung Lutong. The police conducted their search from where the victim fell to upstream Banting.
Meanwhile, APM conducted the search from the victim’s last known position to Tanjung Pendam Batu. Lingga Health Clinic staff searched along Lingga river.
The crew from Kapal Ketara Sepuluh searched upstream and downstream from the location where the victim — a ship worker aboard Kapal Ketara Sepuluh — had fallen.
On Monday, Thein was reported to have fallen into the river around 10.50am and feared drowned after strong currents swept him away.
It was understood that prior to the fall, the victim was pumping grease on the hydraulic machine aboard the ship.
However, the hose used got stuck and when he tried to pull the hose, he slipped and fell into the river.
The victim was last seen wearing safety shoes, a green long-sleeved shirt and long pants.
