KUCHING: The winner of the Miss International Sarawak beauty pageant will represent the state at the national-level pageant next year, according to the pageant director Datuk Raymond V Jolly.

With this year’s theme of ‘Cheers To All Women’ the beauty pageant’s primary goal is to encourage women’s growth, he said.

“Miss International Sarawak advocates humanitarian issues, which include education and being the voice of the voiceless.

“The tagline is meant to encourage women to participate in the pageant and to spread awareness of Sarawak’s culture and traditions, particularly among the younger generation.

“Sarawak is eager to host the finals of this competition so we need to have a candidate who is an all-rounder and good spokesperson for Miss International Sarawak,” said Jolly at a press conference yesterday after the first Miss International Sarawak’s audition at Level 1, Juma’ani Pavillion, Petra Jaya.

“A total of 15 contestants will be screened for the Miss International Sarawak selection for the first audition,” he told reporters yesterday.
