BINTULU: An Indonesian man is believed to be drowned after falling into a river at LAKU Water Intake Dam at Samalaju here, yesterday morning.

Head of Fire and Rescue Station Bintulu, Deputy Superintendent Di-Hatta Gobel said a vehicle and a boat with four firefighters from Samalaju Fire and Rescue Station assisted by six firefighters from Bintulu Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene at about 9.45am after receiving a distress call on the incident.

The victim, identified as Aang Diapri (18 years old), one of the workers of a local company in Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu, is believed to have gone to the location to fish with his four friends.

The victim was said to have slipped when he was about to wash his feet by the river bank before he fell and was swept away by the strong water current. Di-Hatta Gobel said his team was still continuing the search for Aang Diapri using a rescue boat.
