MARUDI: The search for 87-year-old Nyawa Unjong, who has been missing since June 13, has entered its fourth day today (June 16).
Nyawa disappeared after failing to return home from an orchard in Rumah Chabop Diau, Tarak River, Lubok Amam. Despite extensive search and rescue (SAR) efforts, she remains unfound.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation is being led by Marudi Fire and Rescue station chief Maureen Sim.
Efforts have included the deployment of a tracking dog and have focused on a 2km radius around Nyawa’s home.
On Saturday, the SAR team discovered a bundle of ferns, believed to belong to Nyawa, within 500 metres of the search operation centre.
Maureen Sim explained that the SAR team is divided into two groups, one focusing on land searches and the other on river sweeps.
The search has been conducted using the sweep method, forming an elongated line moving approximately 2 km from the central search area around the garden.
In addition to the Fire and Rescue Department, the SAR operation involves the police, the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), and local villagers. Operations were suspended at 5pm on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions but are set to resume on Sunday.
