SIBU: Family members of a homeless individual, Ani Mail are urged to come forward with vital information that allows her to apply for her new identity card.

The Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that with the help of the family members, the application process for Ani who lost her identity card would be made easier.

“Ani has eight siblings, two have already passed away and six living scattered throughout the state as well as in Kuala Lumpur. Her closest sibling is Robert Kennedy Mail who lives in Rumah Randang, Jalan Bintulu-Miri.

“If we can find the community leader from Rumah Randang then we can meet with her brother. If her brother has an identity card then this will help with Ani’s new identity card application process,” she said when met by reporters during her visit to Tempat Transit Gelandangan (TTG) Sibu, today (Dec 9).

The Dalat assemblywoman also said that she had contacted Sarawak National Registration Department (NRD) on the matter and they will help with the application process.

Meanwhile, on the TTG, Fatimah lauded and expressed her gratitude to the management, non-governmental organisations (NGO), and the community for their help in making sure that the centre could operate well.

“TTG is an initiative by the state government to cater to the homeless individual issue throughout the state. For Sibu, they (the management) have done a good job within the TTG.

“Currently we have a total of 16 homeless individuals living in the centre (11 men and five women). Many of them have already moved out as they have jobs and can be independent.

“This is what the TTG is built for. It is only a temporary place for them to stay and get training so that they can have a second chance to build their life,” she said.
