MIRI: A man raised the alarm after a passer-by answered his 15-year-old daughter’s phone claiming her belongings were left unattended at the Coco Cabana beach here on Today afternoon.

A search and rescue operation was mounted to trace the whereabouts of Tan Mei Ling after he reported her missing to the police at 7.25am on Monday.

According to the state Fire and Rescue department operation centre , the girl’s disappearance was noticed by the family after she failed to return home around 3pm on Sunday, prompting the father to call her handphone.

The girl’s handphone rang but much to his dismay she did not answer the call. A passer-by who happened to be in the area eventually picked up the call and told the girl’s father that his daughter’s belongings were unattended at a section of the beach.

A team of firemen together with the police and Civil Defence force (APM) has been deployed to the scene to carry out the SAR.

A control post of the SAR has been set up nearby the area on Monday.
