KAPIT: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched to locate an elderly man reported missing while hunting for frogs at Sungai Banyau, Nanga Sebala Mujong yesterday (July 31).

The victim is identified as Nyipa Ajong, 68, from Rh Bangkong, Nanga Sebala, Sungai Mujong.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim had gone out to look for frogs with a friend on Monday.

While they were heading back, the friend realised that the victim was no longer behind him.

An initial search was carried out by the longhouse residents but they failed to find the victim.

This prompted his family to lodge a missing person’s report.

Firemen from Kapit station, the police and Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel were deployed to the scene. They had to take a two-hour ride via a logging road.

At the time of writing, the victim is yet to be found.
