KUCHING: Police are searching for a 25-year-old man who is a suspect in the stabbing of another man to death near RPR Batu Kawa yesterday.
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Ramli Din said the victim was found dead on the five-foot-way of a row of shops by the public around 3.45am.
“It is said that the 37-year-old victim had a drink at a coffee shop and later rode his motorcycle heading for MJC (Batu Kawa new township).
“The suspect was with the victim riding pillion. The motorcycle had moved for just a few metres when the suspect stabbed the victim,” he told reporters yesterday at Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters.
Ramli added that the whole scene was captured on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) and there were several witnesses present at the scene.
With the suspect already identified, the police quickly moved into search mode intending to arrest him.
“It is said that the trigger for the stabbing could be the smashing of a car window by the victim earlier on. The suspect and victim knew each other and they even drank together before the stabbing happened en route to MJC,” he said.
