KUCHING: Sarawak Energy recently celebrated the dedicated service of 369 retirees at its 2024 Retirees Dinner, giving it an opportunity to honour their significant contributions to the company’s success.

In expressing the company’s appreciation Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili acknowledged their role in shaping Sarawak Energy’s journey over the past decades.

“Much of our success is due to the hard work of both past and present employees. Thanks to the commitment and dedication of our people, we have made great strides in electrifying Sarawak and transforming our energy landscape.

“From expanding rural electrification to pioneering innovations, each achievement reflects their invaluable contributions,” said Sharbini.

He noted that collectively, these retirees contributed an impressive 12,941 years of service, averaging 35 years each, providing the foundation for Sarawak Energy’s continued growth and guiding current employees toward excellence.

Sharbini added that the retirees’ legacy continues to inspire the company’s 6,000-strong workforce, largely comprising Sarawakians.

“This enduring legacy showcases the talent and resilience that drive the company toward its aspiration of becoming a regional renewable energy powerhouse with a focus on sustainable growth.

“Sarawak Energy’s transformation from its humble beginnings in 1921 as an Electrical Section within the Public Works Department under the Brooke Administration to its current position as a vertically integrated power utility and Malaysia’s largest renewable energy developer is a result of the dedication and hard work of its people.

“This commitment has helped Sarawak Energy achieve numerous accolades, including multiple awards from HR Asia’s Best Companies to Work for in Asia and the Brandon Hall Human Capital Management Awards,” he said.

He said the current workforce has greatly benefited from the example set by those who came before them.

“Your commitment and shared knowledge have helped shape the talented, multidisciplinary team we have today,” he said.
