KUCHING: Muslims across the state converged yesterday for Aidiladha prayers and the ritual sacrifice – the first time in two years – amid the relaxation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures by the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS).
“At Kampung Jaya Bakti, Sarawak Energy Berhad’s Islamic Workers Welfare Organisation (PKPI) offered four cattle for sacrifice, to be distributed to 10 recipients from Kampung Jaya Bakti,” said Raden Chekra Muda Raden Alwie, President of SEB PKPI.
“Also 10 recipients from Kampung Sri Kandong, as well as 10 from Kampung Selang Ulu and Kampung Selang Laut and those taking part in the ritual sacrifice and distribution of meat,” he added.
The PKPI committee consisting of 30 people was assisted by the Kampung Jaya Bakti mosque members.
“With the relaxation of SOPs, the response and contribution for this year’s Aidiladha was very encouraging,” said Utility and Telecommunication Deputy Minister II Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi yesterday (July11).
“During the pandemic, the korban ritual could not be carried out. Now that the situation is back to normal, we are able to resume business and the demand is notably higher compared to 2020, despite the fact that the price for cows and goats has increased a little,” he said during the sacrifice ritual.
