KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) is working on supplying electricity to the remote parts of the state using renewable energy sources such as solar and hydro power.
Its Chief Executive Officer Sharbini Suhaili said they are undergoing this initiative under the instructions of the state government with the help of the Ministry of Utilities during the officiation ceremony of the ‘Go Green Campaign: Zero Polystyrene – Reduce Single-Use Plastic’ at its office here yesterday.
“SEB is working together with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in financing the usage of solar lamps in turtle protection areas in the inner parts of western Sarawak.
“As an energy development company owned by the state government, we were also given the trust to develop our own resources and meet current demands,” he said.
Regarding the campaign, he said it aimed to reduce the usage of plastics in the office and ultimately eliminate the usage of both plastics and polystyrene.
“A company like ours can and must lead as we have 5,000 staff members who can work together to reduce their individual marks on the environment. With this initiative, we will ensure that each and every one of us will play a role,” stressed Sharbini.
