SEBAUH: Construction of the Sebauh Bridge across the Kemena River is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the project showed positive progress and was reported to be ahead of schedule after it was taken over by a salvage contractor.
“When the bridge construction project is completed, residents in the Sebauh area will no longer need to use the ferry service to cross the Kemena River,” he said at a press conference after a briefing session on the status of the special project implementation at the Sebauh District Office on Friday.
The Kemena assemblyman did not deny the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of manpower were among the factors affecting the implementation of several other projects here such as the construction project of the Sebauh Mini Stadium, mosques, churches, roads and so on.
The Sebauh Bridge project was announced by Chief Minister (now Premier) Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the launch of the Sarawak Alternative Electricity Supply Scheme (SARES) project at Rumah Irai Gasing, Sungai Binyo in 2017.
With the bridge in place later, economic activities in the area will increase and provide opportunities for residents to develop the land with various crops and at the same time make it easier for them to market it either to here or Bintulu.
