SEBAUH: Various developments need to take place to transform the image of Sebauh town which became a full district on Aug 1, 2015.
Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development of Sarawak Datuk Sri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom said as a full district, Sebauh needs to be equipped with infrastructure and public amenities to reduce rural-urban migration.
Therefore, he said, the relevant parties need to plan to improve development in the town since the travel distance from Bintulu town and the industrial area to Sebauh can now be shortened with an improved road network.
“So, if we work in Bintulu and don’t want to rent there, we can live in Sebauh. It only takes us half an hour to get to Bintulu if the road is in good condition,” he said at the Sebauh Festival and Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) parade in Sebauh on Monday.
“The better the road, the closer we will be. So, let’s think together how to develop Pekan Sebauh and increase the number of better places to live so that people want to live here.
“When projects such as banks, churches, mosques and stadiums are completed, the image of Pekan Sebauh will change. When the bridge is ready, we also need to think about developing the other side in order to change this area because Sebauh is a full district,” he said.
Rundi, who is also Kemena assemblyman, said residents in the Sebauh area will no longer need to use the ferry service to cross the Kemena River with the completion of the Sebauh Bridge project scheduled for the end of 2025.
He is confident that with the bridge, economic activities in the area will be more vigorous and provide opportunities for residents to develop the land with various crops and at the same time make it easier for them to market it either in Sebauh or Bintulu.
