KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), in conjunction with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department, has partnered with the Unit Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat (SPH) of Kolej Komuniti Mas Gading to organize several programs aimed at supporting entrepreneurs in rural areas.
According to a statement from Kolej Komuniti Mas Gading (KKMG), this collaboration aims to foster entrepreneurship and uplift the socio-economic well-being of residents, particularly those living in longhouses near the SEB hydroelectric project development sites.
The Women Empowerment Entrepreneurship Skills Training Programme, conducted by Alice Ajan in collaboration with SEB, KKMG, and the Persatuan Tuai Rumah Jalan Bukut Balingian, and the Hydroponics Cultivation and Maintenance course, taught by Chong Man Lung at Rh Nyaun Sungai Duan, Balingian, are part of these initiatives.
Florida, the SEB representative at the program, revealed that SEB, through its CSR Department, will consistently organize skills development programs featuring high-impact courses, especially for communities residing in the inland areas affected by hydroelectric power project development.
“SEB will always collaborate with various government agencies and non-governmental organizations such as KKMG, which maintains a close connection with the local community through the Lifelong Learning Program (PSH), to help generate socio-economic income, as demonstrated by our collaboration today,” she said.
Florida further added that there are plans for more courses in collaboration with KKMG in areas affected by hydroelectric power project development, including the Kapit Division, Sungai Asap in Bintulu, and Balingian.
Meanwhile, KKMG Director Shirley Philip expressed gratitude to SEB and the Persatuan Tuai Rumah Jalan Bukut Balingian for entrusting KKMG with the implementation of the program.
“KKMG will continue to cooperate with SEB through the CSR Department in the future by organizing various specialized programs for rural communities, as we have recently done with the Lundu Sematan Agriculture and Livestock Association (PETAPEN) and the Singai Women’s Bureau,” she added.
