SEBUYAU: A total of 16,373 residents here will benefit from the opening of Rakyat Xcess and Ar-Rahnu X’Change by Bank Rakyat.

Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the opening of Rakyat Xcess and Ar-Rahnu X’Change reflected Bank Rakyat’s commitment in ensuring every segment of the community had access to financial services.

He added that it also clearly showed Bank Rakyat’s commitment to meet the need for Islamic banking and mortgage services here.

“It is hoped this will provide better and faster banking facilities to traders and residents around the Sebuyau area.

“It is also one of the measures to enhance the existing banking facility by Bank Rakyat in Sebuyau which is the automated teller machine (ATM) located at Koperasi Keluarga Wan Morsidi Tuanku Sait (Kowadi) so that there are more inclusive and diverse banking facilities,” he said during the opening ceremony of the branches Monday (Aug 9).

At the same time, Wan Junaidi presented special gifts to the first customer who opened an investment account, namely, Akuan Pelaburan-i at the branch and distributed Bank Rakyat’s asnaf   contributions to 100 Sebuyau residents.

Besides that, he distributed Geran Bantuan Peneraju Sektor Koperasi (Prospek); Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia to Koperasi Penduduk Daerah Asajaya Berhad; Program Jualan Koperasi Prihatin Rakyat (Pemulih) and Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia.

He also distributed Sumbangan Prihatin Institut Koperasi Malaysia and Geran Pembangunan Usahawan under Program TUBE@Penjana of SME Corp.

Meanwhile, Bank Rakyat chairman, Datuk Abd Rani Lebai Jaafar said the initiative was in line with the objectives recommended by Bank Negara Malaysia to ensure a positive impact on the economy and community through the provision of sustainable and inclusive financial services.

“Bank Rakyat has always played a strategic role in fulfilling its aspirations and goals as a responsible financial institution that promotes positive values and impacts on society through holistic business operations,” he said.

Bank Rakyat chief executive officer, Datuk Syed Abdul Aziz Syed Hassan said with the opening of Rakyat Xcess and Ar-Rahnu X’Change, the financial institution was the first to start such operations here.

“With the opening of a new branch in Sebuyau, Bank Rakyat can continue to support and boost the socio-economy of the community here,” he added.

Bank Rakyat currently has 14 branches in Sarawak, namely, in Bintulu; Kapit; Kota Padawan; Kota Samarahan; Limbang; Matang Jaya; Miri; Mukah; Permy Jaya; Sarikei; Satok; Sibu; Simpang Tiga and Sri Aman.

Apart from that, the other branches of Rakyat Xcess and Ar-Rahnu X’Change are located in Betong and Lundu.

There is one Ar-Rahnu X’Change branch in Satok and one Rakyat Xcess branch in Serian.

Also present during the opening ceremony was Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development, Datuk Julaihi Narawi.
