KUCHING: The second edition of a book called “Glossary of Classification: Timber and Timber Products of Sarawak” was launched yesterday by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
A joint effort by Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the book is also STIDC’s initiative to improve delivery of service to its customers.
“It is a guide for identifying wood products with tariff code logs and timber products for domestic and international trade based on the Customs (Prohibition of Exports and Imports) 2017,” Awang Tengah said during the launch of the book at Riverside Majestic Hotel yesterday.
The glossary also facilitates STIDC and the Customs Department’s processing of licences for exports and imports of timber and timber products.
This book is the first of its kind published in Sarawak to facilitate the trading of timber and timber products.
It is also published in e-book form which can be accessed online on the STIDC website ( www.sarawaktimber.gov.my ).
Also present at the launch were Entrepreneur and Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Assistant Minister Datu Len Talif Salleh; Permanent Secretary to the Urban Development and Natural Resource Ministry Datu Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet, STIDC deputy general manager Dayang Nena Abang Bruce, and Sarawak Customs assistant director Bong Sian Tin.
