KUALA LUMPUR: The Sukma Games here today kicked off with a bang as Sarawak attained its second gold through the women’s javelin throw category.
Sarawak javelin ace Ng Jing Xuan hurled the spear to 43.45 metres (m) in her first attempt to seal the win in style.
The same category also saw Sarawak’s Farisha Athirah Wai settling for bronze after a 39.93m throw.
In second place was Pavithraa Devi Jayaindraan from Penang with a best throw of 43.42m.
Aside from that, the athletics camp also secured two more bronze medals through the men’s triple jump and men’s 3000m steeplechase categories.
Brendon Ting Li King finished third with his 15.14m jump against Sabah’s Andre Anura’s 16.43m best and Selangor’s Muhammad Izzul Hanif (15.56).
Meanwhile, Lucas Wong Sie Hong clinched the bronze medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event with a time of 9:43.44s.
The gold medal was won by Muhammad Ikbolasen from Pahang with a 9:15.24s time while the silver went to Selangor’s Daren James Nair with a time of 9:31.48s.
