KUCHING: Laku Management Sdn Bhd has activated the secondary raw water source at Sg Bakong in response to the persistent dry spell over a month in the Northern region of Sarawak.
In a statement, it said the measure was to supplement raw water supply to the Laku’s Lambir Water Treatment Plant.
“The current dry spell with almost no rain for more than a month, experienced in the Northern region of Sarawak, especially in the Miri areas, has caused the raw water source from Sg Liku to drop to a very low unpumpable critical level,” it said.
Hence, it said the secondary raw water source had to be activated.
“Sg Bakong raw water has very high organic content and has an after treatment carry-over of organic matters that contributes to the yellowish colour to the treated water in our water supply system to our water customers.
“Laku is trying its best to resolve the coloured water situation as soon as possible. While the usage and consumption of the coloured water is safe, we urge our valued customers to call our hotlines for assistance, for immediate flush-cleaning of the water pipelines in your respective area,” it said.
It also advised the people to use treated water prudently in order to minimise water wastages.
“We appreciate very much your patience and understanding at this time,” it said.
For enquiries, the public can contact Laku’s Customer Service Hotline at 085-426626/436626 for assistance.
