KUCHING: Parti Sedar Rakyat (SEDAR) has confirmed its participation in the Nenggiri state seat by-election on Aug 17, marking a three-way contest with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Malay national newspaper Sinar Harian quoted SEDAR president Othman Abdillah as saying the party’s candidate will be announced soon.

“We will be fielding a local candidate from the area,” he told reporters after collecting the nomination forms at the Kelantan Election Commission (SPR) office in Kota Bharu yesterday (July 18).

The party aims to use the Nenggiri by-election as a platform to introduce itself before contesting in the 16th general election (GE16).

Despite being established in Sarawak, SEDAR has begun to establish a presence in Malaya with 15,000 members nationwide.

Othman was confident SEDAR could win the hearts of the locals and stressed the party’s goal to serve the people.

“If elected, we will propose policies focused on improving the daily lives of the residents in the area.

“SEDAR will closely monitor the efficiency and transparency of every state government agency in implementing approved projects. If there is evidence of misconduct, we will expose it,” he said.
