SEDC eyes Pending transformation with Neu Pendington

KUCHING: The ‘Neu Pendington’ project in Pending will be the starting point to transforming the industrial areas there to residential and commercial areas.

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said both SEDC and UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) share a common interest in the field of socio-economic development hence, the mixed development project will further increase strategic cooperation between the two.

“Two years ago, we signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for joint development between SEDC and UDA.

“Located about 5km from Kuching city centre and nearby Pending Heights, this project will involve 12.6 acres of land.

“The first project of its kind will also include two blocks of apartment complex with 25 floors, swimming pool, gymnasium and playground; office and shophouse from two storeys to six storeys and one hotel with 12 floors facing the Sarawak River.

“This project is the first real estate development to be associated with the hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rail Transit (ART).”

Abdul Aziz said this in his speech ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the joint mixed development between SEDC and UDA which took place at the development site, yesterday (Sept 12).

He added that several works will be carried out after the groundbreaking ceremony which include substructure works such as soil investigation which will begin tentatively in December 2022 to make way for shophouses and hotel development; temporary show gallery beginning tentatively in December 2022; and structural works such as walls and floors for high-rise serviced apartment (25 floors) and parking will start in November 2023.

Abdul Aziz believed that Sarawak is on the right track for leading the vision to become a developed state by 2030.

The ceremony was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Also present were UDA Chairman Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim, SEDC general manager Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir, UDA president and chief executive officer Salem Kailany and other guests.
