KUCHING: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) treated 94 children from Kompleks Kebajikan Laila Taib (PERYATIM) to a breaking-of-fast (iftar) event, yesterday.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the children with some contribution in the form of ‘duit raya’ and school supplies.
The event was part of SEDC’s corporate social responsibility programme held for the less fortunate, including children sheltered in welfare complexes and orphanages.
Breaking breaking fast, Abang Johari witnessed the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SEDC and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) for the proposed establishment of an entrepreneur centre at the Entrepreneurship Hub in Sibu.
SEDC was represented by its general manager Datuk Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir while TBS was represented by its general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.
SEDC said the Entrepreneurship Hub located at Jalan Awang Ramli Amit is a two-acre land owned by TBS.
“TBS will allocate the land for the entrepreneur centre and SEDC through the Entrepreneur and Community Development Division (ECD) will act as the agency responsible for developing local entrepreneurs through the entrepreneurial programmes provided,” it said.
Following the exchange ceremony, SEDC also presented a business ‘zakat’ (tithe) cheque to TBS amounting to RM150,000.
Also present were Abang Johari’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting and SEDC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain.
