KUCHING: SeDidik will collaborate with banks in the state to introduce saving initiatives among children in its nurseries and kindergartens.
Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said, saving up is one of the values that needs to be taught at an early age in addition to other mandatory education for early childhood education.
“If the children are taught to save up repeatedly for up to 40 days, it will become a habit for them.
“When their savings are full (in their money containers), it will be sent to the bank for the bank to open an account for the said child.
“Regardless of the amount, what is more important for us is that the children here learn the habit of saving up money from an early age,” the minister said.
She said this during the press conference after visiting Taska SeDidik Semariang here today.
In light of this, Fatimah opined that having such a habit will definitely help the children financially when they grow up.
“We hope to introduce this habit when they are in the nurseries and kindergartens; that’s why SeDidik has planned the collaboration with the banks.
“We believe that the efforts to teach our children to save will be part of their character building and this will benefit them in the long run,” she said.
