BARAM: Parents in rural areas have been advised to continuously seek knowledge regardless of their age. “This is very apparent in today’s highly competitive and sophisticated world with almost everything around our life based on ability to digest and understand information received, especially with the emergence of social media, attend basic courses in agriculture, bible studies or better enrolling oneself in short courses offered by local colleges to learn formal skills should be considered,” opined Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.
He said with knowledge, one could expand one’s horizon and would directly prevent them from being influenced by propaganda spread by people with ulterior motives.
Dennis said this at the launch of the Parent-Teacher Association annual games at SK Long Ikang on Tuesday night.
“Being a local boy, I can understand very well that this is easier said than done. But as your wakil rakyat, I must share and propose what I think best how rural folks can move forward,” he added.
On another note, he lauded the school’s initiative in organising such an event.
“As far as I know only SK Long Ikang is the only one holding this kind of activity in Telang Usan despite that your school having only 22 students,” he said.
School events, he said, also provided a platform for longhouse folks to get together.
He added that schools were also as source of income for longhouse folks, where they could sell their jungle produce and other food items. The sport event was also participated by SK Ubong Imang.
