KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will seek endorsement by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to include the letters ‘GPS’ on its present logo for the 12th state election expected to be due in April 2021.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing revealed this to reporters after attending GPS Supreme Leadership Council Meeting chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters yesterday.
Masing, who is also the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, said GPS would soon send the present kenyalang (hornbill) logo with the additional letters GPS below it to RoS for approval.
“We will use this logo with the GPS letters during the next election. And it will also be used on the ballot papers,” he told reporters.
He then explained the reason to include the GPS letters below the hornbill logo was to avoid confusion.
“The reason is now more and more people are literate. Last time we used dacing (weighing scale) during Barisan Nasional’s (BN) administration.
“We thought that the hornbill is enough. But there are so many kenyalang flying around,” he said.
Masing was trying to say there are several political parties which have hornbills on their logos, thus to include the GPS letters would stop confusion during the election.
GPS’ components are PBB, PRS, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
