KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chose to use the Iban phrase ‘Segulai Sejalai’ as a unity slogan nationwide.
He said the popular Sarawak phrase which means ‘Together in Unity’ will now be adopted nationwide.
“I am attracted to this ‘Segulai Sejalai’ phrase, so tonight I want to make sure that it will be the national slogan.
“This means, wherever I go in future when talking about unity and strengthening of cooperation, I will mention ‘Segulai Sejalai’,” he said during the Gawai Dayak 2023 celebration held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (June 7).
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Gawai Dayak 2023 celebration themed ‘Segulai Sejalai’ has a very deep meaning.
“This is because it coincides with the 60th celebration of Sarawak’s independence in Malaysia, allowing Sarawakians to respect the heritage, culture and freedom of this state,” he said.
Uggah said the theme, which emphasised the importance of unity among pluralistic communities in Sarawak, is a pillar to realise the state’s vision towards economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability in line with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
