SELANGAU: Communities here breathed a sigh of relief after the long awaited fire station began operations on July 1.
Situated at KM82, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu, the fire station sits on a 2.1-acre land, and is about 2km from Selangau town.
When met by New Sarawak Tribune, Pauline Enchang said the fire station was something that the people here had wanted for years.
“We are happy because before this, the nearest fire station is in Sibu, about 70km away,” she said.
Meanwhile, Rudy Dana said: “Our dream has come true with the opening of our own fire station here.
“And with sufficient facilities and manpower, it will be able to provide assistance during emergency situations, such as accidents along the Sibu-Bintulu and Selangau-Mukah roads.”
For Empina, the Selangau fire station is a necessity.
“In the event of an emergency, it takes about one and a half hours to two hours for help from Sibu to arrive.
“Therefore, the new fire station certainly brings relief and peace of mind to locals,” she said.
