KUALA LUMPUR:The Selangor state government can help bring investments to help develop Mandalika in Lombok, Indonesia by promoting it to companies in Selangor, says state Culture and Tourism, Malay Civilisation and Heritage committee chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.
“(On average) Selangor contributes 23 per cent to Malaysia’s gross domestic product, and it has international-standard development companies that could invest here,” he told Bernama in Lombok recently.
Abdul Rashid, who led a Selangor state government tourism and trade mission to Lombok on Dec 16-19 last year, said the state government recently signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Nusa Tenggara Barat
(NTB) province on developing the latter’s trade and tourism
potential.
Abdul Rashid signed the LOI on behalf of the state government while the province was represented by the Governor’s representative, Dr Siti Rohmi Djalillah.
Abdul Rashid expressed optimism that both sides would benefit from the LOI and hoped that Selangor would be able to jointly develop the province’s tourism products.
He also expressed confidence that the collaboration would result in a fruitful exchange of ideas and help promote Selangor’s products in the province.
Abdul Rashid said the integrated resort area of Mandalika has great potential, noting several projects there including hotels, homestays, golf courses and commercial developments on 1,618 hectares of land that would take 20 years to complete.
“We are confident because the companies that will develop Mandalika are the same ones that developed Nusa 2 (in Bali) that is well-known for its five-star hotels and international-standard golf courses,” he said, adding the delegation also discussed tourism collaboration between the two sides. – Bernama
