Selangor looks up Sarawak on smart city development

KUCHING: A delegation from the Selangor State Secretary’s Office visited the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) on June 12 to pick up pointers from Sarawak on smart city development.

The visit was seen as a significant step in the development of Smart Selangor.

According to a press release issued by SMA on today (June 14), the delegation was led by the Director of the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) Innovations Sdn Bhd, Akmal Hamzah.

In his speech, Akmal said the Smart Selangor initiative, which focuses on smart technology and infrastructure advancements, is planned for until 2025.

“Therefore, there are many things that we need to do, and we want to learn from Sarawak, especially in the development of smart cities.

“Hence, our visit is aimed at gaining experience in the management and implementation of smart cities in Sarawak,” he said.

Akmal expressed the intention to establish a bilateral cooperation with Sarawak to realise the vision of Smart Selangor in terms of governance.

This collaboration seeks to leverage the best practices and experiences of both regions for mutual benefit.

Meanwhile the Acting Chief Executive Officer of SMA, Mohamad Irtidzar Razali, emphasised SMA’s commitment to sharing ideas and experiences with external parties interested in learning about smart city implementation and development in Sarawak.

“Through sessions like this, we can share ideas, experiences, and best practices with other agencies.

“Moreover, we are in the process of transforming Kuching and Miri into smart cities,” he added.
