KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) will be opening selected nature reserves (NR) to the public for jogging and walking starting Monday (June 8), following a decision made by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

The NRs are Sama Jaya Nature Reserve here, Bukit Lima Nature Reserve in Sibu), Piasau Nature Reserve in Miri and Bukit Sembiling Nature Reserve in Limbang.

SFC chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton, who is also the controller of national parks and nature reserves, reminded the public to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) put in place by SFC.

“Upon entering the parks, the public must follow the guidelines and instructions.

“The opening hours for senior citizens are from 7am to 10am, and adults (non senior citizens) from 2pm to 6pm. Children below 12 years old are not allowed to enter,” he said, adding that between 10am and 2pm, the reserves would be closed.

He added that when jogging or walking, the public must ensure to not run too close to one another, and were advised to head straight home after their workouts.
