Quesadilla is known to many in the culinary world as a delicacy of Mexican origin.
Petty trader Martha Rano, 29, from Kampung Sibenyis (Mile 15), started venturing into a small business in October 2022 known as Flipping Good with quesadilla as the main product.
Her business received good response after participating in the Food Fair in St Mark’s, Chapel, Mile 15.
“I am interested in venturing into this business so that everyone has the opportunity to taste the food,” she told New Sarawak Tribune.
According to her, she runs this business part-time to generate additional income and her quesadilla gets a lot of orders.
“I chose this product (quesadilla) because I wanted something different from the food items that other people are selling,” said Martha.
Although quesadilla is considered as food that originates from foreign countries, Martha has prepared it in a local way that attracts many customers.
“This order is often ordered during breakfast at school or at work.
“The preparation is very easy and can last for a day if not eaten immediately after purchase,” she added.
However, it needs to be kept in the fridge and heated using the appropriate temperature in order to last up to a week or more.
“I only sell during the day from home with my partner. I’m located at Mile 10, Kota Padawan. I provide delivery services in Kuching, Samarahan, and Siburan. The price of the food is reasonable with products in the range of RM5 to RM10,” she said, adding that her constant challenge is obtaining materials for production and preparing her products for sale.
The daily routine of this business is to ensure the cleanliness of the preparation of ingredients and to provide sufficient quantities for orders. In addition, she provides systematic delivery of early morning orders to customers as well as record orders for the next day. Her business is mainly promoted through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
“With the encouragement and guidance of my family and friends, I am able to do this business well,” she said, adding that her quesadilla is homemade from her own recipe.
“My hope is that my quesadilla will be accepted by everyone because it is a Mexican dish produced locally.
“Besides that, I hope this business grows well and is well known. Strong self-motivation, healthy competition in business and a positive understanding of customer needs are essential for small business owners” she said.
She added that her quesadilla is also ideal for people who want to maintain a healthy diet.
