SEMATAN: The Sematan Festival 2023 has had a positive impact on the tourism sector in the area.

In stating this, Santubong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said of the various competitions and activities, the Beach Tug-of-War Open event was especially well received by the participants and visitors alike.

“Not only was the event participated by the locals, it was also participated by people from Sabah, Brunei, the peninsula and Indonesia.

“Such an achievement in attracting those from outside to our festival should continue ,” she said during the closing ceremony of the Sematan Festival 2023 at Dataran Sematan here on Sunday (Aug 13).

On the Sematan Cyclefest, she stated that the programme also had a satisfactory impact on the overall implementation of the festival.

“In addition to the pursuit of emerging as champions, participation in sports and activities such as this could see Lundu and Sematan as a tourist destination.

“Aside from that, it can also develop our local small and medium entrepreneurs or traders,” she said.
