KUCHING: The highly anticipated Sematan Festival is making its grand return this year, scheduled for Aug 11-13 in Pekan Sematan.
Themed “Sematan Nature Paradise,” the three-day festival promises a blend of entertainment and nature appreciation.
The festival is being organised by the Lundu District Tourism Committee, with Gustian Durani, the District Officer, at the helm.
“The festivities aim to provide a platform for local communities and visitors to immerse themselves in Sematan’s vibrant culture and exciting entertainment events,” he said.
“This celebration is also anticipated to foster stronger bonds and cooperation between representatives of the people, agencies, stakeholders, and the community at large,”he added.
The public can look forward to a People’s Concert, the Sematan Cyclefest Event, a badminton competition, beach tug-of-war contest, a nostalgic 60s song competition, and performances by artistes.
Breaking new ground, this year’s festival boasts an international flavour, with participation from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia and Brunei, as well as representatives from Sabah, Johor, and the peninsula states of Malaysia, and even Singapore.
Sports enthusiasts will be treated to traditional archery and martial arts events, which aim to promote these activities within Lundu District and the Sematan Sub-District.
The event will be brought to a close on Sunday by Datuk Sri Nancy Shukri, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development.
