SERIAN: Two non-favourites made a surprise to enter the final of the Serian Resident Cup Football Championship 2017 at the Kampung Lanchang Sabai football field, Serian on last weekend.
Semeran FC players ousted defending champions Rimong Croc (4-3) through a penalty shootout after both teams were tied (1-1) at full-time.
Meanwhile, Hazzel United’s team cruised into the final after a narrow win (1-0) over Daruda FC.
Tournament chairman, Page Helbourn said the unexpected results took place in the semi-finals last weekend.
“The defending champions (Rimong Croc) failed to continue their excellent performance following a narrow loss to Semeran FC,” added Page.
According to Page, the date of the final is yet to be determine due to unforeseen problems. The champions will receive a cash prize of RM2,200, a challenge trophy, an accompany trophy and medals.
Meanwhile, runners-up will get RM1,600 cash including a trophy and medals. Third place will receive RM900 cash, a trophy and medals and RM600 cash, a trophy and medals for the fourth place.
Cash prize of RM150 each will be given for the best players, the top scorer will get a cash prize of RM150 each while the best team will receive RM100 cash.
