KUCHING: A Senator has commended federal ministers of the National Unity Government for taking a 20 per cent monthly pay cut in efforts to stabilise the economy.

Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim also praised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for not accepting any salary for the post of Prime Minister or Finance Minister.

Anwar announced the pay cuts for his cabinet ministers after a special meeting in Perdana Putra on Monday.

He said that the salary cuts were temporary until the country’s economy stabilises.

“We cannot predict what will happen next year because the entire world is expected to experience an economic slowdown.

“Therefore, I support cutting the minister’s salary because ‘bandage’ is the best way for now,” Ahmad said.

Ahmad, who is also the deputy chairman of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), said this when met by reporters after the prize Presentation ceremony of a colouringcCompetition and the 2022 Plastic Properties Use Campaign at SK Matang Jaya, today.
