KUCHING: Senator Jaziri Alkaf A. Suffian wished everyone a Happy Gawai Day.

“This year’s Gawai celebrations may be a little different due to the implementation of the movement control order, which is in effect throughout Sarawak and Malaysia as part of our efforts to reduce the surge of Covid-19 cases,” said the Bersatu leader.

“It is hoped that this year’s Gawai celebration will enhance our commitment to tackle all obstacles and difficulties together for the sake of our security and a more wonderful future for the country.

“However, all parties must recognise that the government’s enforcement, such as not allowing visiting activities during the celebration, is only meant to prevent people from being infected or transmitting this virus to loved ones and the local community.”

Jaziri added that to ensure the Covid-19 transmission could be controlled more effectively, it was best to avoid leaving the house except for important matters and to continue following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and rules established by the National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) as well as to cooperate fully with the Sarawak State Disaster Committee (SDMC).

“This is what occurred to our friends in the Peninsula when a few of them insisted on celebrating Raya with families and friends but unintentionally spread this fatal infection to family members, endangering the lives of their loved ones.

“As a result, we must learn from this mistake in order to prevent the same thing from happening here and to ensure the safety and health of family members are protected while we continue to fight the pandemic.”
