KUCHING: The third Chief Minister’s Industry Excellence Award (CMIEA) 2021 is now open for participation.
Eligible organisations can start sending in their entries before the closing date, which is on Sept 15 this year.
Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) president Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg said this year’s theme ‘Rest, Reform, Rebound; Building Resilience in Boosting Productivity’, aims to examine the triumphs of some companies, on how they are able to stay resilient, as well as remain productive and relevant despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Allow me to take this opportunity to ask fellow industry players to be actively involved in this award programme,” he said during the launching of the CMIEA 2021 via Zoom yesterday (Aug 12).
He added that the CMIEA utilises the internationally-recognised Malaysia Business Excellence Framework (MBEF) as its benchmark for assessing and recognising companies in their pursuit of business excellence.
“We hope that the awards programme will continue to foster great awareness and commitment to continuous improvement and sustainable development among the business community,” said Abang Abdul Karim.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) director-general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman said the theme echoes the essence of MPC’s 2021 productivity report, which addresses the recommendations to overcome challenges in productivity after its growth contracted due to the pandemic.
He disclosed that CMIEA adopts MBEF as one of its intentions to progress performance, strengthen engagement, enforce value creation to stakeholders, and thrive in the competitive marketplace.
“MBEF, an internationally-recognised framework with seven benchmark criteria in the evaluation process facilitates businesses to make continuous improvement to sustain the desired level of competitiveness,” he said.
Abdul Latif assured that MPC, as the guardian of the framework, is committed to assisting organisations to improve productivity through the adoption of MBEF in collaboration with the business excellence community.
“We offer assessment services through our consultants, recognition through participation in prestigious awards, and the opportunity for organisations to be systematically assessed based on the MBEF, which is similar to the criteria used by Industry Excellence Award (AKI),” he said.
He added that CMIEA 2021 will be part of MPC’s flagship programme by empowering a productive mindset, designated under the Sarawak productivity initiatives.
“Sarawak productive flagship programmes will also encompass strengthening a conducive business environment by improving regulations and intensifying the state’s digital transformation.
“I hope that CMIEA 2021 will serve as a catalyst for companies to drive productivity and that all industry players will seize this opportunity to participate in CMIEA and improve their efforts to build resilience in times of the pandemic, which can then be used as a benchmark for others,” said Abdul Latiff.
The CMIEA 2021 is organised by SBF in collaboration with the state government and Sarawak MPC, with an aim to give honour and recognition to outstanding big and small business cooperation in Sarawak.
Winners of this year’s award will represent Sarawak in the national level on the AKI, and the winner from there will represent Malaysia in the Asia Pacific Quality Organisation at the Asia Pacific level.
