SARATOK: A senior citizen died, pinned to his seat, after his car crashed head on with a medical waste truck along Jalan Kedap, KM58, Jalan Sarikei-Betong.
During the 8.20am incident, the truck was travelling from Sibu to Kuching when the car driven by the victim, 71, reportedly entered the opposite lane while negotiating a bend and crashed into the truck.
The deceased was heading towards Sarikei from Betong.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the front of the car was completely wrecked and that the driver died at the scene.
Rescuers summoned to the scene had to use special tools to extricate the driver’s body from the car.
“Police are now searching for the deceased’s next of kin. The truck driver, 36, escaped unharmed and had his statement and urine sample taken,” Alexson said when contacted yesterday.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
