MUKAH: A senior citizen was shocked to find out that she has to go all the way to Balingian, which is some 60km away, to collect her Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) government cash aid this year.
All the while, she had been collecting the aid, known as BR1M previously, from Dewan Suarah Mesra here.
Single mother Dewi Plin, 62, from Kampung Tellian Ulu, Mukah said she received a letter regarding the BSH stating that the RM300 voucher can be collected at the Balingian Community Hall, Balingian on Feb 22 between 9am and 4.30pm.
She lamented that she could not go to the venue because of transportation problem.
Dewi wants to know why the sudden change of venue ; she has been collecting and cashing out the vouchers at Dewan Suarah Mesra, 5km from her home, in previous years.
She would usually get a lift to Dewan Suarah Mesra but she said, “Today, I cannot go to Balingian because it’s inconvenient and too costly.
“The place is far and I don’t have my own transport,” lamented Dewi, who has a son and a daughter. Both are married.
Her son David Damai Peteran, 29, said, upon enquiry earlier this week, a staff at Pusat Khidmat Hasil here told him that her mother’s voucher could only be collected and cashed out in Balingian.
