PUSA: Although she could barely walk, a 77-year-old confessed she was excited to go and cast her vote here on Saturday.
Ipot Eri from Kampung Hilir Pusa was one of the earliest to turn up outside the gates of the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pusa votomg centre well before 7am to cast her vote.
Prior to Saturday, the social media was filled with much chatter about polling day being a ‘back to school’ day.
Some netizens jested that they would be going to school simply to learn the letter ‘X’.
Ipot, when met by Suara Sarawak said she was extremely excited to “go to school.”
“I felt a difference because I have never felt this strong urge to vote before,” she said.
“Imagine the numerous times I have voted during my lifetime but this election, I felt extremely excited.
“Maybe it’s because of the fact that the candidate Mohamad Shafizan Kepli is a local born here,” said Ipot, adding that the government will win in the GE15.
“Win they will win. I am confident that the son of Saftuyan Sain will win. I just hope that once he becomes the YB later, he will develop his own hometown earnestly.
“You (Shahfizan) bring a big hope to the people in the Pusa District and throughout Barang Lupar, generally,” Ipot said, adding that she had to withstand pain in her leg just to cast her vote.
She was also thankful that she was accompanied by one of her children and for the help extended by the Election Commission (EC) workers.
Ipot was also happy that she had met a few of her old friends at the voting centre including 72-year-old Jenun Salleh.
GPS candidate for Batang Lupar, Shahfizan also cast his vote at SK Pusa around 9.15am accompanied by his wife, Nazrah Abdullah Chek.
